ABOUT US
Bears on the Road is a small Dutch company founded by friends with a shared passion for board games. The idea to create our own games came from playing countless board games and always feeling that small tweaks could make the game even better. We hold ourselves to a high standard of quality and understand that it’s often the smallest details that make the difference between a good game and a great one.
Our name, Bears on the Road, comes from a Dutch saying about “seeing bears on the road” – “imagining all the problems ahead”. And honestly? We’re pretty good at spotting problems (and then deciding not to do the thing). But this time, we ignored the bears and went for it. We develop all our games together and test them extensively with friends, family, and at board game design meetups in the city.

RENS
Graphic Designer
Rens is our graphic hero who makes sure every game looks fantastic. When he’s not getting lost in the details of his designs, you’ll find him at the climbing gym, building routes for climbers. He’s passionate about both board games and board sports, and that sense of adventure and challenge shines through in his creative work for Bears on the Road.
LUC
Illustrator
Luc is the creative mind behind all the illustrations for our games. In addition to his work at Bears on the Road, he works as a healthcare advisor, and when he’s not at the drawing table, you’ll often find him in the climbing gym. His attention to detail and passion for movement are clearly reflected in the dynamism and vibrancy of his designs.
THOMAS
Tank Engine
Thomas ensures everything runs smoothly behind the scenes, from the webshop to administration and all other business matters. In addition to this, he works as a software developer and is often found bouldering or playing (beach) volleyball in his free time. With his determination, he keeps Bears on the Road moving full speed ahead.

In July 2024, Bears on the Road was officially founded, marking the first major milestone for a group of friends passionate about board games. The company’s name is a nod to the Dutch saying ‘Beren op de Weg,’ symbolizing the challenges they've overcome.
